If you’re a Comcast subscribers, there’s a very good chance you’re going to lose the NFL Network on April 30st.
Two years ago, Comcast removed the NFL Network from their Basic Digital tier and put it on a more expensive Sports tier. For customers like myself, who didn’t want to lose the network, this move meant having to buy this package even though I only wanted one station and now having an even higher cable bill each month.
The NFL Network’s contract with Comcast is up on April 30th. The NFL has been trying to negotiate a new deal that puts their network back on the Basic Digital tier, but Comcast isn’t interested.
Comcast says it’s unfair to force people to pay for a channel that they might not want. The NFL says that Comcast has no problem forcing people to pay for Versus, the Golf Channel, and the MLB Network (all channels that they own a part of) and are essentially playing favorites.
The NFL isn’t blameless here. They screwed millions of fans out of NFL games by switching some of the better regular season games to a network with limited coverage simply because they owned it.
But I really, really hate Comcast.
I mean, I really hate Comcast.
In my mind, it goes Big Oil, AIG, the sub-prime mortgage companies, then Comcast.
I fully support the NFL in their battle to take down Comcast. I check the availability of Verizon FIOS in my area every week, and I encourage everyone else to do so as well.
