Hardee’s Smurf Glasses

I recently ran across this picture on the web and it brought back a ton of memories. I can remember getting these glasses at the Hardee’s at Liberty & Offit in Randallstown. I think it’s now a Nappa Auto Parts store.

My mother probably still has all 8 glasses at her house. My father may actually still be using them!!

Worst Failure Ever

worst-failure-ever

Republican activists have successfully “Google bombed” Google, managing to have the Obama Administration appear as the first search result for “worst failure ever.”

Google bomb is slang for an attempt to raise the ranking of a given page in results from a Google search, often with humorous or political intentions. It is achieved by gaining enough links on the said term to the targeted page, although Google announced in 2007 that it had found a way to supposedly stop Google bombing taking place.

If you want to check it out, type “worst ever failure” into Google to obtain the result. Google has been pretty quick in the past to crack down on Google bombs, although given it’s the middle of the weekend, you might have until Monday before it disappears.

Drink Wilkins Coffee … or else!!!

These are not fake!!! They were actually commercials for Wilkins Coffee.

You may recognize the voice of Jim Henson.

The Barrel Monster

A North Carolina man is facing criminal charges for creating an amusing piece of public art from construction barrels.

Joseph Carnevale, 21, was nabbed Wednesday after a Raleigh Police Department investigation determined that he was responsible for the “monster” constructed May 31 on a roadway adjacent to North Carolina State University.

Carnevale was charged with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly building his orange monster from materials pilfered from a construction site. According to an arrest warrant, Carnevale “destroyed three road blocking barrels by cutting and screwing them together to form a statue.”

Police estimated that Carnevale’s artwork caused $360 in damages to Hamlett Associates, the North Carolina construction company that owned the barrels.

Hot Fudge Cake

The other day Sayra and I were talking about our favorite desserts.  After thinking about it for a few minutes, I remembered something that I hadn’t thought of in years, the Hot Fudge Cake @ Big Boy’s.

I remember this thing like it was just yesterday, even though it’s probably been over 20 years since I’ve been in a Big Boy’s restaurant.

The dessert was very simple – 2 pieces of chocolate cake with ice cream as the middle layer.  It then had hot fudge poured all over it and was the topped off with a little whipped cream and a cherry.

What made the dessert so good was the hot fudge.  This wasn’t some thin chocolate syrup poured out of a bottle.  This was the real stuff.  The best part would be the contrasting temperatures between the cold ice cream and the warm hot fudge. So good!!!

Unfortunately I haven’t even seen a Big Boy’s in decades. The ones that I remember most was the one in Gettysburg (Shoney’s) and the ones on our way to Florida (Elby’s and Bob’s).

Here’s a few pics of me from the 70’s posing with the Big Boy.  Check out my outfits. I can’t believe my mother actually dressed me like that.

So, You Think Obama is a Socialist?

The hot-pink portion of this pie chart is the percentage of listed American business assets that have recently been nationalized by the American government (ie, General Motors). Obama’s version of socialism is so sneaky you can hardly see it!

Pick The Perp

PickThePerp.com is a great way to kill time. They give you 5 different mugshots and you have to pick which one was guilty of the listed crime. I got about 20% of them correct.

I never knew that Vince Scaccio was charged with Giving a False Name to a Law Enforcement Officer.

World Games Stadium 100% Solar Powered

The dragon-like structure you see is the ‘World Games Stadium’ in Taiwan, which is being built for the upcoming World Games.

What looks like dragon’s scales from afar are actually 8,844 solar panels which is enough to satisfy all of the stadium’s energy needs, and then some. The 14,155m2 roof has the potential to generate 1.14 gigawatt hours of electricity every year, which is actually enough to power 80% of the stadium’s surrounding neighborhood when it’s not in use.

Yay for the sun!

It was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, cost around $150 million to build and can hold 55,000 spectators. Something like this makes the new Cowboy Stadium and Yankee Stadium already look outdated.
